Otto Link
"Early Babbitt"
ToneEdge Eburnated Hard Rubber
Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece
"7" Facing - I measure it at 0.105 inches.
A good-sized tip opening...large enough to encourage a good range of dynamics...
But not so large you have to waste energy struggling with it.
SOLD - July 2010
This ToneEdge hard rubber mouthpiece is uncannily similar to a Florida "Slant" Link.
There are multiple points where it differs from current Babbitt production.
- The highly skilled handcrafting of the facing and chamber
- The facing curve
- The longer baffle shape, a little further back
from the tip
- The pebbly texture of the chamber floor
- The mill marks
on the reed table running perpendicular to the length of the mouthpiece.
- The polished appearance of the chamber
But most of all...the way it plays...a fat, lush sound that has a bite if pushed.
This is an easy-playing, responsive Link.
All those points make me speculate that it might be a Florida "Slant" mouthpiece that was acquired by the Babbitt company in 1974 which then applied
applied the "Otto Link" name to the mouthpiece.
Here is a sound sample of the of this mouthpiece (click the "Play" button) recorded May 21, 2010:
